Artist Statement
While so many things were stopped during the past 3 years, the importance of art in everyone's life, mine included, was highlighted. I often felt bereft without live music, theatre, dance, and particularly visual art exhibitions. Since returning to busy normal, I have slowly and gladly resumed my consumption/absorption of art from my surroundings. Preparing for my upcoming exhibition has been an opportunity to pull together a comprehensive joyful lens into my life over the past 2-3 years. I am happy to share it.
Making art is my sanity and my joy. I like to respond to the natural world around me and I see it more clearly and with great particularity by drawing or painting it. My hope is that I can lead others to enter into the wonder of natural phenomena through my large and bold vision. The struggle to embody that vision in a painting can be frustratingly difficult but the paintings I keep -and there are many that I do not - seduce me into trying again.
